Here’s the thing…

As therapists who may have grown up in an invalidating environment or with developmental trauma, we learned from early on to carry the emotional burden of our family. We may have been parentified, have taken on our parents’ disowned parts, or been polarized into “all good” or “all bad” roles. While our history contributes to our skill as therapists, it also comes with increased risk of burnout.

In this 3-hour live virtual workshop, come together with other therapists and helpers to hone in on patterns of our early history that contribute to our personal organization and can result in us overworking in our practice. We will explore ways to unwind those patterns including: somatic, movement, interactive/dyadic regulation and the support of community.

Why group?

This workshop will focus on the potency of group work. When we come together and engage at a group level, we find an increase in our ability to explore and tend to what is challenging and in the shadow. The group’s amplified intentionality, deliberate witnessing, capacity to hold vulnerabilities and strengths, combine to meet our deep collective yearning: a sense of belonging. What is impossible to metabolize or integrate alone becomes easier to hold together.

This online interactive workshop will combine experiential and didactic modalities. It will include two experiential exercises that will demonstrate firsthand the value of group work to support both clients and therapists. Through didactic presentation and interactive dialogue, participants will reflect on their personal history and its impact on their current level of resourcing in their role as therapist. Therapists will leave with insights about their own patterns and ideas about antidotes to alleviate stress and burnout in their therapy practice.
