Unity & Power 2024: Solidaire Network Gathering
Post Plenary Sessions
“Body-Based & Movement Reflection Circle”
Restoration, Resourcing & Resilience for Activists: How we can move in ways that are sustainable?
We’re investing all our resources into creating change in the world: financial, intellectual, emotional. We don’t hold back when it comes to the fight for justice.
Our emotions, energy and body are inseparable.
When our energy is fragmented, or when we have unexpressed emotions, it can create inflammation, disease, irritation in our nervous system.
Plus, our beautiful bodies hold not only all of our past experiences, but also all of the messages that we internalize. When we ignore and override our body’s signals, we reinforce the oppression of patriarchy, capitalism, etc. and we play out those dynamics inside of us. This makes it harder to hear our intuition, and can impact our effectiveness.
Some intentions of these workshops:
- Starting an inquiry that you can continue through the conference and beyond
- A mini antidote to the intensity of our times
- A moment to reflect on how much the macro impacts our sense of self, safety, and capacity to respond
- Deep listening
- A hope that you leave feeling more connected and resourced
- If we attune to ourselves at a deep level, is a different sort of change possible?
Friday/Workshop #1
September 13
11:30am-12:30pm
Tools for Regulation:
I’ll equip you with some tools that you can use throughout the conference and in daily life back home. We’ll practice each one and link it physically & metaphorically to how we move in the world
The resources will depend on what’s needed in the moment and on who’s in the room. Our time together may include such things as: Somatic resourcing drawn from the work of Resmaa Menakem, Havening, Bill Bowen, Yogic breathing practices, grounding practices, movement, resourcing for the muscles around the eyes, etc.
Saturday/Workshop #2
September 14
11:30am-12:30pm
Deep Nourishment and Economy of Effort— a Foundation for More Effective Activism:
We’ll do a self love/listening ritual and see how that impacts how we move. When we include our body, and move from a place of deep nourishment and connection, does that prevent burnout and make our work sustainable for what lies ahead?
