Borderline Personality Disorder is highly stigmatized and often goes undiagnosed. An official diagnosis can only be determined by a licensed clinician, through the use of assessment techniques. This quiz is not the equivalent of a psychological diagnosis. However, it can be useful to collect clues about your family of origin. This clarifying insight can help you get targeted support to help you heal.

What is Borderline Personality Disorder?

This is a complex and stigmatized diagnosis. For many reasons, it is often undiagnosed.

Please note: Admission into the therapy group does not amount to a diagnosis for your parent.

A diagnosis of BPD requires 5 of the following symptoms:

  • Fear of abandonment
  • Unstable relationships
  • Unclear or shifting self-image
  • Impulsive, self-destructive behaviors
  • Self-harm
  • Extreme emotional swings
  • Chronic feelings of emptiness
  • Emotional volatility, especially anger
  • Feeling suspicious or out of touch with reality

The symptoms must have been present since adolescence and can be caused by a combination of environmental and biological factors.
