From Survival to Restoration: Therapeutic Use of Self in Developmental Trauma Healing
Developmental trauma is caused in relationship—and through relationship repair becomes possible. In the absence of a grounded, regulated caregiver, many clients grow up without the internal capacity to self-regulate. Their nervous systems remain organized around survival, a reality that often emerges vividly in the therapy room.
ReParentive® Therapy offers a restorative, relational approach. Rather than asking clients to regulate when that was never offered or modeled for them, the therapist’s nervous system becomes an instrument of repair. When clinicians learn how to care for and harness their own nervous systems, the therapeutic relationship itself becomes a powerful source of healing.
Considering our upcoming Foundations in ReParentive Therapy Training? Here’s your chance to see if the training would be right for you!
In this workshop, we will explore:
• How the therapeutic relationship can repair early relational trauma
• How to use your own nervous system as a clinical tool rather than a site of depletion
• Core concepts and practical techniques for working with developmental trauma
We will also touch on:
• Recognizing and working with countertransference without becoming overwhelmed
• Navigating enactments commonly seen in clients raised in invalidating environments
In an increasingly dysregulating world, clinicians need more than insight—we need restorative practices that support both client healing and our own sustainability. This workshop offers practical tools to help you work more effectively, remain regulated, and close your day with greater steadiness and capacity.
Looking forward to being in this conversation with you!

How do you get hooked?
Many therapeutic modalities ask “How do you feel when you’re with this client?” or look at countertransference to gain insight into the client’s experience. ReParentive Therapy emphasizes care of your own nervous system both in and out of session, plus teaches you to use your nervous system to gather information about the client.
